It seems awfully cold and harsh to insist on a contract before marriage. Whatever happened to romance? Nobody's insisting. It's just that hard experience says it's a good idea, that will pay handsome dividends if and when it's needed.
Romance is alive and well and is indeed what caused the couple even to consider marriage in the first place.
Cold or not, nobody should be allowed to marry without one. It's just too important.
